Rodriguez begins '30 Day Every Neighborhood Tour' of Buffalo
BUFFALO, N.Y. — "At the end of the day, we feel we're going to win this campaign in the streets of Buffalo," said Sergio Rodriguez, Republican candidate for mayor. And so, that's where you'll find him for the coming weeks.
Monday, Rodriguez began his "30 Day Every Neighborhood Tour" of the Queen City in the Old First Ward.
"I think this is an opportunity for me to really learn on a community-micro-level what exactly is troubling residents in the City of Buffalo. This is an opportunity for them to ask questions, to learn about my platform and to deliver that on a personal basis," said Rodriguez.
While Democratic candidate Mayor Byron Brown chose not to comment on camera Monday about his campaign efforts, he gave us this statement: "I'm in neighborhoods every day. It's nice to see Mr. Rodriguez finally get to them."
"Honestly, we've been to every single neighborhood we're about to hit up anyway, but this is a structured format," said Rodriguez. "The mayor only wants to come around when there's a photo op."
Residents can go online to see where Rodriguez will be when throughout the tour - and he looks forward to hearing their concerns and visions for the city.
"It's important that we understand that they have unique challenges, unique needs. For example, what the east side of Buffalo is concerned about may be irrelevant to the Parkside community," said Rodriguez.
So far, Rodriguez said he's seen a lot of enthusiasm from residents.
"We feel very energized. When I'm going out there people feel the fact that, why is the mayor not wanting to debate you? They ask me that all the time now."
Although Brown's campaign has said he won't debate Rodriguez, he will continue his push to Election Day.
